information for parents

Vision  -   Building an interdependent community of engaged learners who go forth to influence the world around them.

Absences

If for any reason your child is going to be absent from school, the school must be informed prior to 8.50 am. You can either:

Phone 06 327 8229

Text 027 758 5514

e-mail office@jamescook.school.nz

If your child is absent from school for 3 days or more a medical certificate is required.

Arrival at School

Because the teachers are preparing for the learning day, we ask that children do not arrive until 8.15 am.

Board of Trustees

The school is administered by elected representatives called the Board of Trustees.  Meetings are held on Tuesdays at 6.30pm, Week 2 and Week 8 of each term. All meetings are open and parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend.

Buying of Lunches – Healthy Eating Healthy Minds

We are a water only and healthy snacks School.

Departure From School

Unless students are attending sports practice or other teacher directed activity, students are expected to return home directly after school.  If children are to 'play' at a friend's place then this should be arranged the day before.  This practice is in line with our 'keeping ourselves safe' unit, and it helps to minimise the number of times we are called out to look for children who have not arrived home within a reasonable time.

School App

Download from your app store the school app to receive notifications, copies of newsletters and any messages regarding practice, game or event postponements or cancellations. Also absences can be sent through to the office via the school app.

Leaving the School Grounds During the Day

No pupil is permitted to leave the school grounds unless teacher and parent permission has been obtained. Parents/Caregivers must sign their child/ren out at the office when leaving the school grounds. Please notify the school if your child will be returning home daily for lunch. We need this information in case of emergencies.

Lost Property

Clothing which is not named is difficult to trace and a constant worry to both staff and parents.  Any articles unclaimed at the end of each year are disposed of to various charitable organisations.

Naming of Clothes

All clothing should be named.  This especially includes towels and swimming togs used during the swimming season and PE gear.

Parent Helpers

From time to time teachers will ask for parent help both in and out of the classroom. Please let your children's teachers know if you are available.

Physical Education

Students are asked to wear appropriate clothing for physical education sessions e.g. t-shirt, shorts and trainers. Swimming – girls (one-piece togs), boys (swim shorts).

Uniform

The school has a uniform.  Details of this are available from the school office.

All students are to wear the uniform.  For protection all students must wear the school hat during intervals and lunch times.

Uniform items can be purchased from Academy Apparel, 82 Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North. Order online www.academyapparel.co.nz. Hats can be purchased from the school office.
